Chahar Gah: A Modern Villa Embracing Nature

Blending Tradition and Innovation in Iranian Architecture

Chahar Gah, designed by Nima Keivani, is a stunning villa that seamlessly integrates with its natural surroundings. Inspired by the traditional architecture of the region, this unique design combines transparency, sustainability, and a deep connection with nature.

The main idea behind Chahar Gah was to create suspended spaces that maximize the view and transparency, allowing nature to embrace the architecture. The outer shell of the building draws inspiration from the traditional roofs of the area, providing wide openings that offer breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.

What sets Chahar Gah apart is its ability to adapt to climatic conditions and exchange energy. The design creates an interactive dialogue between the residential veils and the environment, allowing residents to experience the changing seasons and the beauty of nature without any barriers. Despite its transparency, the design also ensures privacy, addressing the concerns of its inhabitants.

The realization of Chahar Gah involved careful consideration of the region's climatic conditions. The elongated form and chimney of the outer shell facilitate better air circulation, preventing air twists. The building is transparent and layered, with sloping outer coverings that enclose the interior spaces. The suspended interior spaces, arranged in separate boxes around the hallway and living area, create visual boundaries and play with light and shadow.

With a field area of 2060 square meters and a total built area of 650 square meters, Chahar Gah stands tall with a maximum height of 14 meters. The design team, led by Nima Keivani, also includes Sina Keivani and Sahar Aminalsharieh Najafi.

Chahar Gah is not just a visually stunning design; it also functions harmoniously with its surroundings. The large insulated windows frame the landscape, allowing ample natural light and heat control. The design prioritizes ventilation, with a significant amount of fresh air flowing through the building naturally.

The arrangement of cubic volumes within the outer shell creates diversity in space organization while preserving the privacy and independence of its inhabitants. The open middle space houses family activities and services, emphasizing human sociality.

The construction of Chahar Gah began in February 2021 in Anzali, Gilan, Iran, following its design in March 2019 in Tehran. The design process involved extensive research on the region's climate and indigenous architecture, ensuring sustainability and energy optimization. The design successfully overcame challenges such as balancing contemporary and traditional architecture, optimizing energy consumption, and integrating with the surrounding landscape.

Chahar Gah is a testament to Nima Keivani's innovative approach to Iranian architecture. By embracing transparency, sustainability, and a deep connection with nature, Chahar Gah offers its residents a unique living experience that harmonizes with the surrounding environment.
